Letter Dd Activities: Day 2

During our Dd days, we decided to visit a duck pond. I'm not much of a photographer, but was happy with the photo I got of this handsome fella above.

Dd is for Duck Activities
-waddle like a duck...quack, quack
-if your not afraid like little man.. chase ducks (he, he)
-water play with rubber duckies
-count the rubber ducks
-sing duck songs.  Here's a fun one from Boowa and Kwala. More songs and fingerplays can be found at ChildFun.
-make a craft- have your child paint a paper plate yellow, cut out a duck shape for your child.  Have them glue on a premade beak and google eyes.  Glue on yellow feather for wings.

More duck activities can be found at...

Happy Learning and Creating!

Letter Dd Activities

Recently, we spent a couple of days on the letter Dd!

Dd is a fun letter, because there are many activities that can be incorporated.  We learned about dogs and ducks.  I also have some activities for dragons, but we didn't get a chance to do them yet.

We started out the letter Dd with a d mini book and our Dd discovery bag.

Dd is for dog...
There are so many fun books that focus on dogs or have dogs as a main character.  We read the following books..

Activity 1- I drew dog on white paper and cut out different colored circles.  Little man glued the colored circles on dog.  We talked about the different colors and the actions in the story. You can find more activities to go with this book at

Activity 2- I created colorful bones from construction paper and laminated them.
- match the colors, identify the colors
- count the bones
-hide the bones

Activity 3- Sing A Doggy with a Bone (Tune of "If you're happy and you know it.) Pretend to be a dog.

More literature..

My recent find at our local library... Dog's ABC.  I didn't know that Dog had more than one book!  Fun find.

We also read  Go, Dog. Go!
This is one of little man's favorite books! I loved this classic as a child as well. With great repetition, this fun book teaches kids colors, begining site words, opposites, and more!

And one last book suggestion.  Do you recognize these characters?

If you are reading books about dogs, you can't forget about Mudge!

Stay tuned for Dd is for duck activities!

Busy with Puppets

So sorry I haven't been around this week!  I've been busy with puppets... yes, puppets.  I'm volunteering at our church camp this week.  I'm serving by doing puppet shows for 3 to 5 years olds- so fun!!  Therefore, I haven't had a chance to post since Father's Day!  If you stop by, be sure to look in the archives for activity ideas! Also, I've written a couple of posts over at The Activity Mom that you can check out.  :)

Enjoy the rest of  your week! I'll be back soon!

Ocean Sensory Bin

I've seen many beach themed sensory bins around the blogosphere that I absolutely adored, so I decided to make one for little man.  Let's just say it was a BIG hit!  He must have played for an hour or more.

Dollar store toys: dolphin, submarines, fish, shark
Water Beads

We played with and without water.  It's hard to see the water beads above, but little man had fun playing with them in the water.

Water and sensory play all in one!

Here are the beads with very little water- above.

Big sisters couldn't resist, either!

Little man just looked over my shoulder and yelled..
"Seashells!  I play and water!"

Do you have a summer themed sensory bin to share?
Just leave a link in the comments!

Little Man's Sandbox

Recently, we packed up our three kids, a picnic, and our beach gear and headed to the closest lake!  It was the perfect weather for swimming, so the girls took advantage of that for sure.  Little man loved playing in the mud-like sand.

I prefer the Ocean, but the kids didn't mind a day at the lake at all!  What have you done to kick off the summer season?

Creative Block Building

I love it when my kids take an everyday object and turn it into something new!  Little man thought this red chair was perfect for block building.  Isn't this age of discovery and exploration so much fun?  What has your little one been up to?

The Fantastic Roadtrip-a-Matic

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of PA Tourism for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Before children, my husband and I would often go on roadtrips and stay at quaint bed and breakfasts. It would have been great if we had a tool such as the Road-trip-a-Matic on  A road-trip through beautiful Pennsylvania is much easier to plan with this tool.

Road-trip-a-Matic has pa-roadtrips planned from sites to see, the places to eat, and where to stay all on one page. They categorize it base on interests, so there is something for everyone from war buffs to foodies. Ghost rides, Leaf Peepers, and Tour d' Art are among the trips that you can browse. The roadtrips that I'm most interested in for my husband and I is the PA Charmy tour. We've actually taken many road trips throughout Pennsylvania, but I'm sure there are still little towns we haven't explored. Hmmm... there's a wedding anniversary right around the corner.  Now if I could just find a sitter for three kids.

For my kids, there are a few days trips available under the Kidslyvania roadtrips from one side of the state to the other. How about The City of Brotherly Love, Swing on through Steel City, or Family Fun and Adventure awaits in the Alleghenies? All three adventures sound wonderful! Now that little man is getting older, I'd think about a roadtrip this summer. We've done 3 hours at the most so far and he's done very well. We love camping and nature, so the Alleghenies would be perfect for us!

Have you been to Pennsylvania?  Check out the  Road-trip-a-matic and let me know which trip most interests you!

Tadpole Rex by Kurt Cyrus

At our most recent trip to the museum, we found this gem...
Tadpole Rex by Kurt Cyrus.

“Deep in the goop of a long-ago swamp,
a whopping big dinosaur went for a stomp,”

Learn about the life-cycle of a frog in a new and fun way!  Do your kids know that the frog's ancestors lived in the time of the dinosaurs?  I enjoyed reading this to Peanut and Little Man.  The illustrations were wonderful as well.

If you missed yesterday's post, I shared more pictures of our trip
 to the dinosaur museum

Enjoy your day,
