Peanut(age7) and I snuck away to read a book together today. Egg-napped, written by Marisa Montes, was our book of choice. We laughed at the humor and enjoyed the rhymes throughout the story.

EGG-napped is a delightful, springtime read. After discussing the plot and sequencing the events of the story, we enjoyed pointing out the rhyming words and the author's vocabulary usage. Peanut is very interested in writing, so when she reads, she pays close attention to how the author uses figurative language or if the vocabulary is interesting and new. We also enjoyed Marsha Winborn's whimsical illustrations.
Ideas to connect fun with literature... 1.Have an egg hunt. Have your child hide the egg. Pretend it was taken. 2.Act out the story with stuffed animals. 3.Study ducks. Write facts on a large egg. 4. Act out being a duck in an egg. The egg is cracking and the baby duck pops out of the egg!
Little man and I had fun searching for the letter S in newspaper ads. I cut out the large S and then he glued all of his finds on.
Finger painting the Swirly letter S was fun! Find out in our next post what we made with his painting. Hint: It's an animal that begins with the letter S.
S is also for St. Patrick's Day, so I hope you have a good one!
Unfortunately it is also for the word sick :(- we've been oh so sick this week. It has passed one by one though the five of us- not fun. Momma held on strong until the end.

Little man loves the letter Tt! Do you want to know why?
Well, I'll show you....
Do you know how stinkin' cute it was to hear him trying to sing this- oh my goodness!
Well, after that, I just had to do a Tt craft with him.
Turtle Craft
Materials: green and yellow construction paper, google eyes, glue, brown paint, and a sponge or large pom pom
After cutting out a half a circle for the shell, I had little man paint brown spots on it. He used a large pom pom. Cut out the other parts of the turtle. Cut a yellow Tt.
Let the shell dry before helping your child glue the parts together.
Last, with assistance help glue the Tt on the turtle. Talk about the letter and the sound.
He's so proud of his Tt turtle!

I put him in the bathtub,
to see if he could swim.

I made a paper bathtub and acted out the song with a stuffed animal and the bathtub. I think I had more fun with this than little man. Oh well! Maybe your little one will like it!

The story & props link features great books with manipulatives that you can use for a felt or magnet board. I printed out the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree with letters to laminate for little man.

Isn't this hippo adorable? I saw this craft from DLTK and just had to have an Hh day with little man. Plus he has really been into hippos lately since he got a super cute hippo bath set for Christmas.
We actually only made the face, because the bottom didn't print for me for some reason.
I also found a cute hippo song to sing from the same site.
Peanut also decided to join in on the fun and sang this song to little man...
I can spell cat.. C-A-T I can spell hat... H-A-T I can spell bat... B-A-T But I can't spell hippopotamus!!
Hippo mini- poster: And then I search online for actual pics of hippos on google images and let little man pic out his favorite images. I printed and cut them out or him and he glued them on to paper. Hh is for hippo is in the center of our mini-poster.

And here is the bath toy, he's been enjoying. It has also been great for color recognition- hand Momma the yellow hippo, etc. or what color is that hippo?

Wish I had taken a trip to the library before doing an Hh day, but sometimes I'm just throwing things together at the last minute based on his interest that day. Anyways- these books look adorable for a Hippo day.....

After reading a post from Activity Mom on number spinners, I got the inspiration to play a spinner game with little man. I found a clear spinner in my teacher materials and added different color dino stickers to match colored dinos from his toy bin. We took turns spinning the spinner and collected dinos to match the color on the spinner. When we were finished, we counted each color of dinos that we collected. For example, little man had 3 orange dinos when we were finished, so we counted them together.
Skills fine-motor- spinning the spinner color recognition counting language skills social- taking turns

I've heard of this book before, but have never read it. This morning little man and I came across it on youtube- adorable!
I recommend this story for little ones. I love the humor in the story and it was perfect timing for this video, because we just visited the zoo a couple of days ago and little man just adored the gorillas. Yesterday, he had fun making a gorilla stick puppet. He can even say "gorilla"- well sort of- he says - "orilla, orilla" He made me play the video over and over. "more, more!"
