Time for Snow, Mom!

As I listened to the girls laughter, I thought to myself, "Okay, it might get a little bit messy, but listen to the fun they are having." They approached me with tissue paper butterflies that they cut out of tissue paper and were excited about the way they drifted to the ground, so they asked if they could create more and let them fly around the living room. At first I hesitated, but then okayed the idea- they were being creative and the butterflies were large enough that they could pick them up.

Well, during their imaginative play, the butterflies soon became snow. Their cutouts became smaller and smaller. Little pieces of snow, hundreds of little pieces of white tissue paper snow. I was getting ready for my day, so I didn't know that this change in their play plans had occurred. Boy was I surprised to see my living room covered in white from the tables to the floor. Luckily, I didn't overreact (I think!), and had them clean the entire mess before Daddy came home. (Daddy gets a little uptight about these types of messes- don't tell him that I told you.)

Sometimes it is worth the mess so that they can have the joy of being kids!

Enjoy your day!

Skeleton Hiccups!

hic

Skeleton can't get rid of his annoying hiccups no matter what he does in the adorable book by Margery Cuyler- Skeleton hiccups. This is such a fun book and perfect for this time of year.

Luckily, Skeleton has a good friend, Ghost, who is there to help him solve his problem. Will Skeleton get rid of his hiccups? If so, how does Ghost help him? Read Skeleton hiccups to find out and then have fun doing one of these skeleton activities that I found on the web.

Mr. Bones: My 5 year old tried to help me with this online activity. I wasn't very good at putting Mr. Bones back together again! This is a fun activity, probably best for older children, that also teaches the names of the different bones in the body.

Macaroni skeleton at kid's domain

SkeletonEducator Guide Awesome Educator's Guide- great information for older children as well as a neat macaroni skeleton activity. Links to lots of skeleton resources and activities.

3D Skeleton Mobile- Love this one! I need to start collecting boxes though if I want to do this- Halloween is just around the corner.

How about a fun Halloween song? To download the spooky song, Scary Skeleton from Boo, Cackle, Trick or Treat by Sue Schnitzer, visit freekidsmusic.com.

Have a spooky and fun day!

Creative Tips!!

**Use ziplock baggies to organize craft supplies. Label with permanent marker. (Yeah, I organized the craft drawers yesterday! Let's see how long it stays neat before the girls destroy it!!)

**Don't throw away your little plastic apple sauce containers; they make great water or paint holders for your little artists!

**Create charade cards for a family fun game. Play in teams with Daddy, too. For younger children, draw little pictures for them to act out.

**Using washable markers, draw little faces on your chidren's toes. Yes, I said toes!! They will have fun having a conversation with thier little tootsies. (TOE TALK from 365 ways to a SMARTER PRESCHOOLER)

**Connect the literature you are reading to your child with a follow up activity. For example: Have your child paint or draw a picture of the main idea in the story or search online for crafts relating to the story.

**File those creative ideas! If you find a learning article or fun activity, but don't have time to do it right away, file it for later. I keep a file in my file cabinet labeled Learning Ideas.

**Keep a junk box for your child that is filled with recycled materials. It is amazing what they can create out of junk. Things to include: paper towel rolls, small boxes, yarn, small plastic containers, spools, popsicle sticks or tongue depressors, scraps of fabric, straws, etc. If you need a quick activity with the kids, it is right at your fingertips!

**To help eliminate clutter from all of your child's precious artwork, take pictures and create a photo album of their work. This takes up less space, but still provides you with memories. Keep a few favorites to frame and hang on the wall!
