Welcome to the 2nd edition of the Baby Times! This week Peanut will be reading a counting book to our little man. Having siblings read to your infant not only benefits baby but also the beginning reader. Peanut(AKA Pumpkin) chose to read Pokey Little Puppy's Counting Book by Jean Chandler.
"The poky little puppy went for a walk and this is what he saw."
Didn't she do a great job? I love hearing her read to him. Counting books have always been some of her favorites to read. A couple of books that we love that would also be great for babies include:
Chicka Chicka 123
Dog's Colorful Day
More baby fun:
Have fun counting objects with your baby- stuffed animals, toys rattles, etc.
From the time my children were infants, I would count the steps with them as we walked up and down. When they are infants, they enjoy hearing Mommy's voice and as they get older, it helps them learn to count. We even learned it in Spanish- just for fun!
Parent Resources:
Also, I came across a couple of great articles to guide us in nuturing language development in our babies.
Literacy in Babies: Birth to Six Months
How to Nurture Language Development - Newborns and Infants
Happy Reading and Counting with your little one! Hope to see you back next week for The Baby Times! Let me know what you think and feel free to ask me any questions.
Take Care!
Jen

I love the idea of having the older sibling read to the baby.
