We sent postcards to five different states and will receive 5 postcards from different states. As the cards come in the mail, the girls will mark the different states on a map.
Next, we'll research each state. What are the state symbols? landmarks? special foods? fun things to do? etc. Sunshine is interested in the state flags. First, I'll assess their background knowledge about our own state before moving on to new states. Then we can compare and contrast the different states.
Research resources
-travel booklet
-tourism commercial
-state mobile
-PowerPoint
Also, stop over at Superheroes and Princesses. She has been doing some awesome state projects with her kiddos!
Please feel free to leave a comment and share any ideas for state projects. If you aren't participating in a swap, but are interested in something like this, out-of-state relatives are a great resource and kids love getting post cards from family!
Enjoy your day!
Jen
A postcard is on its way to you from us in today's mail. Sorry we took an extra few days to mail it!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see what you've been doing! I hope you get some great postcards :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome swap! Superheroes and Princesses is one of our FAVE blogs. Christy does such great activities with her kids!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link and the kind words! Honestly, I am learning SO much doing the states project! I love it (maybe more than the kids!). If you would like a postcard from MA, let me know - we will happily send you one!
ReplyDeleteA postcard swap is always great and the children learn so much about them. We recently did one for a geography project and got all sorts of fantastic postcards from my family and friends from all over the world and from different states in Australia where we live. My children did a bit of research on where the postcard was from and we put them in a display folder. Unfortunately we joined a yahoo post card exchange and sent out 15 p/cards to people internationally and only got 2 back which was a huge disappointment to my two.
